Middleton Grange isn’t just another residential area. It’s a testament to a war hero and a tribute to aviation’s golden age. Officially established in 2005, Middleton Grange holds a unique story within its relatively young existence. Before the houses and families, this area was envisioned as Hoxton Park East. It took the dedication of individuals like Rene Licata to reshape its destiny. Licata unearthed the story of Rowden ‘Ron’ Middleton, a WWII fighter pilot whose bravery earned him the Victoria Cross. Middleton, on his 29th mission, saved his injured crew by forcing them to parachute out of their crippled plane before it crashed. He then guided the plane away, sacrificing himself to protect others. Licata’s efforts not only led to the renaming of the suburb to Middleton Grange but also infused its street names with aviation heritage. Lockheed Avenue, Cessna Street, and Qantas Boulevard are just a few examples of how the suburb honors the past.
