Menai High School

Nestled within Sydney’s Sutherland Shire, Menai High School has a captivating story to tell. Menai High School first opened its doors in February 1988. It was a time of great anticipation, as the local community welcomed this new educational institution. The school’s first principal, Don Harwin, steered the ship, guiding the initial 375 students through their first years. Menai High School wasn’t officially opened until a few years later, in April 1992, by Virginia Chadwick, the Minister for School Education and Youth Affairs. This marked a significant milestone for the school and solidified its place in the community. Over the years, Menai High School has evolved and grown. It expanded its facilities with the support of the dedicated Parents and Citizens Association. Today, Menai High School boasts impressive resources, including five computer labs, a well-equipped library, and an Independent Learning Centre. Students can explore their creativity in drama, dance, and music studios, and there’s even a sound recording studio and video editing facilities. For those interested in more hands-on learning, the school offers an accredited marine laboratory, industrial-standard kitchens, a large automotive workshop, and a fitness centre. The school’s beautiful campus also includes ‘Ann’s Place,’ an outdoor tiered learning space and native garden. Menai High School has a rich history of achievement. Its alumni have made their mark in diverse fields, from sports to the arts. Notable alumni include cricketer Steve Smith, UFC champion Robert Whittaker, and musical theatre star Amanda Harrison.
