Established in 1923, Mejiro University began its journey as Kenshin Gakuen in what is now Shinjuku. Its founders, businessman Satō Jūben and his wife Fuyu, envisioned a place of learning. The Mejiro University we see today stands as a testament to their vision.

The story of Mejiro University is one of constant evolution. In 1930, the Mejiro Commercial School was established. This marked an early step in the university’s growth. Later, in 1963, Mejiro Women’s Junior College emerged alongside the Department of English Literature. The following year saw the addition of Japanese Literature and Human Life Science departments.

In 1994, Mejiro University truly took shape as a four-year institution. The Faculty of Humanities was born. Departments like Regional Culture Studies and Linguistics and Cultural Studies joined the academic ranks. That same year, the Iwatsuki Campus in Saitama Prefecture opened its doors. The expansion of Mejiro University continued in 1999 with the establishment of its Graduate School. The Graduate School of International Studies was among the first.

The early 2000s brought even more change to Mejiro University. Between 2002 and 2007, new faculties appeared. These included Foreign Languages, Business Administration, Health Sciences, and Nursing. The Graduate Schools of Psychology, Business Administration, and Life Welfare were also established. The Mejiro University Clinic opened in 2008 to further support the health sciences. In 2009, the National Saitama Hospital Campus was established in Wakō, Saitama Prefecture.

More recently, in 2012, the Graduate School of Rehabilitation was established. The Faculty of Media joined Mejiro University in 2018. The Faculty of Psychology is its newest addition having been established in 2020.

Today, Mejiro University is a comprehensive institution. The university boasts a wide array of faculties. These encompass Psychology, Human Studies, Sociology, Media, and Business Administration. Students can also study Foreign Languages, Health Sciences, and Nursing.

Mejiro University’s Graduate Schools offer advanced studies. You can pursue degrees in Psychology, Business Administration, and International Studies. Other options include Social Work Services, Language and Culture Studies, Nursing, and Rehabilitation.

Mejiro University has a number of notable people pass through its doors. Agnes Chan, the singer, is an affiliate professor. Yuu Kashii, the actress, is among the alumni. Also Neko Hiroshi, the comedian and marathon runner.
