Perhaps surprisingly, the Max-Ernst-Gesamtschule wasn’t always called that. This school is more than just a place of learning. It’s a testament to art and education.
Founded in 1981, the Max-Ernst-Gesamtschule is located in the Kölner Stadtteil Bocklemünd/Mengenich. The school is named after the artist Max Ernst. The Max-Ernst-Gesamtschule adopted his name in 1992. This was to honor his 101st birthday. Since then, the school has emphasized visual arts.
The Max-Ernst-Gesamtschule is easily accessible. It is near the Westfriedhof. You can reach it via bus line 127 or Stadtbahn line 3 to Ollenhauerring. Since 2018, the Görlinger-Zentrum station on Stadtbahn line 3 provides even faster access. Alternatively, bus line 127 stops at Börnestraße.
The Max-Ernst-Gesamtschule embraces an integrated approach to all-day learning. Elements beyond the standard curriculum are woven into the week. The Max-Ernst-Gesamtschule cultivates linguistic and cultural exchange with European partner schools. There are long-term partnerships with schools in France and the United Kingdom. A newer partnership exists with a school in Poland. Students in the Oberstufe can participate in exchanges with students from Spain.
