“Light Horse” Harry Lee founded Matildaville. A Revolutionary War hero he named the town for his beloved wife Matilda. In its heyday Matildaville boasted a market gristmill sawmill foundry inn and more. Boatmen stopped here to rest or await passage through the locks. The town was vibrant. It was a vital part of the canal’s success.
