Founded in 1962 by the Sisters of the Good Samaritan Mater Maria Catholic College stands proudly. It initially served thirty-eight Catholic girls in Narrabeen. The college moved to its present location in Warriewood in 1964. This peaceful bush setting became its home.

Mater Maria Catholic College is more than just a school. It’s a testament to community growth. Initially a school for girls the college expanded in 1979 to become co-educational. This decision reflected the changing needs of the local population. By 1984 students sat for the Higher School Certificate for the first time. Many of these students were pioneers of co-education at Mater Maria. They became the founding members of the senior school.

The college’s journey wasn’t without challenges. The original bush chapel was closed in 2002. This made way for a significant expansion. New facilities were built throughout the decades. These developments kept pace with curriculum changes and rising enrollment. The Commonwealth and five local parishes contributed financially. Five new buildings opened between 1974 and 1990. The Sisters of the Good Samaritan generously donated the land to the college.

Mater Maria Catholic College’s history is interwoven with the community’s. John Ducker a prominent figure served as the first chairperson of the Parent’s Board. His contributions are commemorated in a building named in his honor. The college’s success is not solely measured in academic achievements. It’s also reflected in its unwavering community spirit. A recent fundraiser demonstrated this. The community rallied together to raise $50000 for a graduate injured in an accident.

Mater Maria Catholic College continues to thrive. It’s the largest high school in the Broken Bay Diocese. It remains the only co-educational Catholic secondary school on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. This school is a beacon of faith centered education. It empowers students to reach their full potential. It nurtures their talents and prepares them for the future. It’s a place where students not only excel academically but also make a positive impact on the world.
