Marton Public School derives its name from Marton in Yorkshire. This is the birthplace of Captain James Cook. Construction of the school began in August 1971. The buildings were ready in June 1972. Sir Roden Cutler, the Governor of NSW, officially opened Marton Public School on August 18, 1973.
In 1973, seven staff members taught 225 children. The school’s enrollment grew. It peaked in 1982 with 32 classes. As the population aged, enrollment numbers fell. For the past several years, there have been 16 classes. Today, Marton Public School is a K-6 primary school. It has a population of about 400 students.
The Parents and Citizen’s Association chose the school uniform. Brown and gold reflect the natural bushland around the school. The emblem shows ‘Marton’ under the Southern Cross. Boronia and Banksia are on either side. These wildflowers grow near the school.
