Remember the year 1987. Marley Station Mall opened its doors. It stood as a beacon of retail, a place for the community to gather.
Marley Station Mall is located in Glen Burnie Maryland. It quickly became a central hub for shopping and entertainment. Taubman Centers developed it.
During the construction of Marley Station Mall in 1985 a grim discovery was made. A body was found in a trash can. It remained unidentified for many years. Only in 2019 was it confirmed to be Roger Kelso.
Expansion was a sign of success for Marley Station Mall. In 1994, JCPenney was added. It fulfilled a long-standing request from shoppers. Sears joined in 1996, replacing an older store in Glen Burnie.
Change swept through Marley Station Mall in 2006. Macy’s took over the Hecht’s building. Boscov’s then occupied the original Macy’s location. Boscov’s tenure was brief. In 2008, it closed due to bankruptcy.
The story of Marley Station Mall took an unexpected turn. A data center was planned for the former Boscov’s. AiNET purchased the space in 2012 to create the CyberNAP data center. Unlike most of the mall, this section has three stories.
There were talks of AiNET expanding its data center throughout Marley Station Mall. The mall’s management aimed to increase occupancy with retail tenants. The Woodmont Company managed and leased Marley Station in 2013.
Marley Station Mall faced financial challenges. In 2012, the vacancy rate soared to 44%. Despite this, by June 2013, occupancy was reported to be near 85%. The mall was listed for auction in September 2013.
Entertainment was a key part of the Marley Station Mall experience. An eight-screen movie theatre opened in 1987. United Artists Theatres operated it. Regal Entertainment Group later took over. The Movies at Marley Station closed in February 2014. Horizon Cinemas reopened four theaters in June 2014, upgrading the experience.
Financial difficulties continued to plague Marley Station Mall. Moody’s rated the mall’s debt as high-risk. Appraisals showed significant losses for investors. Aeropostale closed its Marley Station Mall store in 2016 as part of bankruptcy.
Ownership changes marked the later years. In 2016, Marley Station was sold to G.L. Harris for $22.7 million. Vacancy rates were reported to be just over 2% in January 2017.
Marley Station Mall went to auction again in 2020. The sale was halted due to bankruptcy. Sears closed in January 2021.
In 2022, Mason Asset Management and Namdar Realty Group purchased Marley Station Mall. Their plan involves an aggressive leasing strategy.
Today, Marley Station Mall has JCPenney, Macy’s, Gold’s Gym, and Horizon Cinemas. It continues to evolve. Marley Station Mall adapts to the changing retail landscape.
