From its humble beginnings in 1888 Marist College North Shore has a rich history. Initially a school for boys Marist College North Shore was founded by Brother Walter Moore. It served the educational needs of North Sydney’s less fortunate residents. The school began as a small two-room building. This location is now the St Mary’s Campus.
The college’s early years saw it grow significantly. By 1916 the student population surpassed 300. The school outgrew its original space and moved to its current location. This became the La Valla Campus. It had previously housed Mark Foy’s Furniture Repository. Father Cornish SJ purchased the building. He transformed it into classrooms and a hall named Manresa Hall.
Marist College North Shore continued to evolve. In 1965 Marist Brothers Mosman merged with Marist Brothers High School North Sydney. This created Marist College North Shore. It became a secondary school for boys. The college adopted the motto “Virtus Ubique Vincit” meaning “Courage Conquers All”.
Over the years Marist College North Shore expanded its facilities. The La Valla Centre opened in 1996. This housed a hall art rooms computer labs and more. The Coyle Centre followed in 2007. This addition included a library more classrooms and a food technology area.
In a significant development in 2021 Marist College North Shore and St Mary’s Catholic Primary School combined. This formed Marist Catholic College North Shore. The new school became co-educational. It now serves students from Kindergarten through Year 12. The two campuses continue to operate. La Valla Campus focuses on secondary education while St Mary’s Campus serves primary students.
