Interstate Properties built it with Grant City and Montgomery Ward as its original anchors. Imagine the excitement then. Hecht’s later replaced Grant City. The 1980s saw the addition of Leggett and Sears. This era shaped the mall’s identity. Leggett closed in 1997. J C Penney quickly took over its space. That same year Hecht’s relocated. Target then built a new store on the former Hecht’s site. After Montgomery Ward’s closure Sears took over that space. Hecht’s transformed into Macy’s in 2006. Walmart’s arrival around 2010 involved demolishing the west wing. This demonstrates the mall’s constant evolution. Target’s underperformance led to its closure in 2013. At Home replaced J C Penney in 2015. Sears’ bankruptcy resulted in its permanent closure in 2020. Floor & Decor opened in much of the former Sears space in December 2023. The former auto center remains empty a testament to the mall’s ongoing journey. Today Manassas Mall is anchored by Macy’s Walmart Floor & Decor and At Home.
