Two ice rinks. A running track. This is Mälardhöjdens idrottsplats. It’s more than just a sports field. It’s a piece of Stockholm’s history.

Imagine the 1940s. Mälardhöjdens idrottsplats was one of the first things built in the planned district of Fruängen. Before it was a bustling sports center it was a simple gravel field. A running track surrounded a large gravel space. A smaller gravel field sat to the east. Three tennis courts were added in the west by 1939.

The location and size of the sports field were fixed in the city plan for western Fruängen in 1953. The new Södertäljevägen was built north of the sports field. This separated Mälardhöjden from Fruängen.

Over the years Mälardhöjdens idrottsplats grew. Changing rooms and staff buildings were added between 1938 and 1941. The first ice rink was built in the 1960s. A tennis hall followed in the 1970s. A gymnastics hall opened in 2019. Today Mälardhöjdens idrottsplats offers a variety of facilities. There are three tennis courts a running track an artificial turf field and a gravel field. Mälardhöjdens IK owns the tennis facilities. The rest is owned by the municipality. The ice rink is home to Djurgården Hockey’s youth section. They even have a hockey school.

The sports field has been called Myren. It’s located a short distance from the Fruängen metro station. You can borrow equipment at the site during staffed hours. It’s a vibrant hub. Mälardhöjdens idrottsplats serves athletes and the community. It’s a place where history and sports meet. It is a place where the past and present merge to create a lively community. This is Mälardhöjdens idrottsplats. A testament to the city’s dedication to sports and recreation.
