Macarthur Girls High School has a rich history. It began in 1934. The school sits on land with stories stretching back to the First Fleet. William Reid, a sailor from the Sirius, received this land. Later, Reverend Samuel Marsden built his home, Newlands, here.

The school’s name has evolved reflecting changing times. It started as Parramatta Commercial and Household Arts School in 1927. It then transformed into Parramatta Domestic Science School. Later names included Parramatta District and Home Science School. It was also known as Parramatta Secondary Central Home High School. Other names were Parramatta Home Science School and Parramatta Secondary Home Science School. Finally, in 1959, it became Macarthur Girls High School. In 2010 it was named Macarthur Centre of Excellence.

Macarthur Girls High School sits beside the Parramatta River. It’s a comprehensive public secondary school for girls. The school has grown over the years. Additions were made in 1955, 1975, 1996 and 2010.

The school offers a diverse curriculum. Students can pursue the Higher School Certificate. They can also take Vocational Education courses. Technology plays a key role in their learning. Macarthur Girls High School aims to empower its students. It wants them to be confident and successful.

Macarthur Girls High School celebrated its 75th birthday in 2009. The Student Representative Council marked the occasion. They renovated the rose garden. This act symbolizes the school’s growth. It also shows its enduring beauty.
