Lyemun Barracks Block 10 stands as a testament to Hong Kong’s rich past, a place where soldiers once lived and where laughter and camaraderie filled the air. Originally constructed between 1890 and 1895 as soldiers’ quarters for the Royal Artillery, Lyemun Barracks Block 10 later underwent an extension in 1935, seamlessly blending the old with the new. The barracks witnessed a tragic event at the nearby Sai Wan Antiaircraft Battery where British soldiers were captured and killed. After the war, life returned to Lyemun Barracks. It housed the Depot and Record Office of the Hong Kong Military Service Corps from 1948 to 1986. In 1987, the barracks were handed over to the Hong Kong government and transformed into the Lei Yue Mun Park and Holiday Village. Lyemun Barracks Block 10 even played a role in the 2003 SARS outbreak and the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, serving as a quarantine facility. In 2016, recognizing its historical significance, Lyemun Barracks Block 10 was declared a monument, ensuring its preservation for generations to come.
