Centuries of history reside within these walls. This is the Lung Kwu Tan Tin Hau Temple. This temple stands in the western part of Tuen Mun District in Hong Kong. It’s a place of primitive simplicity.

Lung Kwu Tan Village has a history spanning hundreds of years. It is a recognized village under the New Territories Small House Policy. Lau Wong-fat was a Lung Kwu Tan Village Representative. He was also chairman of the Heung Yee Kuk. He served from 1980 to 2015. He was an influential figure in rural Hong Kong politics.

Legend says Emperor Bing of Song sought refuge here. He fled from invading Mongols. This was during the Southern Song dynasty. He went as far south as Lung Kwu Tan. A cave here is known as the Emperor’s Cave. People believe he stayed here. During the Japanese occupation, the Dong Jiang guerrilla force used the cave. They used it as one of their military bases. They resisted the Japanese from here.

The Tin Hau Temple at Lung Kwu Tan is dedicated to Tin Hau. The Chinese Temples Committee maintains it.
