Remember that feeling when you stumble upon a place seemingly untouched by time? That’s Lung Ha Wan. Lung Ha Wan also known as Lobster Bay is more than just a scenic spot. It is a journey into Hong Kong’s ancient past.

Lung Ha Wan sits at the north end of Clear Water Bay Country Park. The Country Trail was named after this bay. Its name hints at the seafood feasts enjoyed by inhabitants millennia ago.

But what makes Lung Ha Wan truly special? On a rock face above the clear waters lies a mysterious carving. Discovered in 1978, it was declared a monument in 1983. This carving is believed to be 3000 years old.

Imagine the ancient people who created these swirling patterns. The geometric designs, some resembling stylized animals or birds, hint at stories we can only guess.

Archaeologists have found that these early inhabitants enjoyed a diet rich in seafood. Perhaps they gazed upon this very bay, Lung Ha Wan, while carving their stories into stone.

The hike to Lung Ha Wan offers stunning views. The trail leads upward revealing coastlines and islands. Look down and you will see Green Egg Island. Hikers have nicknamed it because it looks like a fried egg.

Continue to the summit of Tai Leng Tung. At 291 metres above sea level, it offers views to the Ninepin Islands.

Stargazing is great in Lung Ha Wan. The skies above Lung Ha Wan offer constellations not visible from the city. In Cantonese, the Milky Way is known as the Silver River.

Remember to bring a torch. A red flashlight helps protect your night vision for stargazing. And be sure to check the weather. Stargazing is best on a clear night.

While exploring Lung Ha Wan, remember that camping is not allowed. There are no designated campsites in Clearwater Bay Country Park.
