Some houses are meticulously maintained, with “1968” etched into their facades. Others are crumbling, a testament to time’s relentless march. In the heart of Luk Keng Tsuen, you’ll find a small shrine. Here, residents and returning villagers offer prayers and burn incense. A deserted playground and basketball court stand nearby, echoes of a more lively past. Luk Keng Tsuen was established by the Chan clan in the early 1700s. During wartime, over a hundred people called this village home. Now, only a handful of elderly residents remain. One such resident, Mr. Chan, lives with his cat. He remembers a bustling Luk Keng Tsuen. He recalls how everyone left after the war, seeking new opportunities elsewhere. His children now live in the UK, sending him money and visiting during Lunar New Year. Mr. Chan has no desire to leave his ancestral home in Luk Keng Tsuen. This village, with its quiet charm and rich history, continues to hold him close. The story of Luk Keng Tsuen is a story of change, resilience, and the enduring connection to one’s roots.
