Doesn’t the name sound intriguing? Welcome to Lost City Art. This isn’t just another gallery. It’s a portal to diverse artistic visions. It is a place for explorers.

Lost City Art has two locations. One is inside. The other is outside. Lost Origins Gallery is inside at 3110 Mt Pleasant St NW. Lost Origins Outside is at 3243 Mt Pleasant St NW.

Lost City Art was founded by Jason Hamacher. He is a DC musician. He is also a photographer and documentarian. Hamacher’s company is Lost Origin Productions. The gallery opened in April 2017.

Hamacher is also an ANC Commissioner. In November 2020, he was walking around Mount Pleasant. It was early morning. The neighborhood was empty. He noticed the alley. He’d lived there for fifteen years. He never paid attention to it. He realized its potential.

Lost City Art strives to be inviting. It hopes to be engaging and intimate. It hosts exhibits and events. These feature local artists. National artists are showcased too. International artists are welcome. You might see comedians and filmmakers. Musicians and authors may be present. The gallery believes in collaboration. It appreciates support from staff. Neighbors and friends contribute too.

Lost City Art Outside is a public exhibition space. It wants to inspire. It wants to engage the public. It wants to unite people. The outdoor space was conceived in November 2020. Hamacher texted Nick Pimentel. Pimentel co-owns Elle restaurant. Pimentel secured permission from the landlord. Rob Harris helped too. He co-owns CSI. CSI specializes in large format printing. They reproduce artwork on weather-resistant materials.

Lost City Books is another part of the Lost City story. Adam owns Lost City Books. He is a veteran. He loves dogs. He is a long-time DC resident. He enthusiastically shares books. The team includes artists. Educators and musicians are present. Writers and avid readers enrich the environment.

The logo invokes mystery. It shows open doorways. Steps lead to the unknown. The moon has occult symbolism. German expressionism inspired it. Woodcuts are an influence. The doorway shape comes from DC street call boxes. These are no longer used. They are an anachronistic object.

Lost City Art is an ever-growing community. It considers the past. It considers the present. It considers the future. It invites you to explore. Discover new horizons.
