In 1986, Lok Sin Tong, a Kowloon-based charity, established a new secondary school. This school, Lok Sin Tong Leung Chik Wai Memorial School, became the fourth secondary school on Tsing Yi Island. Imagine the excitement surrounding its opening on April 8th. Lok Sin Tong Leung Chik Wai Memorial School was built in Cheung Hong Estate Phase 1, near Liu To. The school provided a much-needed educational resource for the growing community on the island. Initially, most students came from the Tsing Yi area itself. This was largely due to the limited access to the island, with only one bridge connecting it to the mainland. Even with improved access over the years, with eight bridges now connecting the island, many students continue to be drawn from the local community. This has fostered a unique “island culture” at Lok Sin Tong Leung Chik Wai Memorial School, creating strong bonds between the students and their school. The school prides itself on its aided co-educational status, serving over 1000 students with a dedicated teaching staff. Lok Sin Tong Leung Chik Wai Memorial School is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a testament to the community’s commitment to education and a vibrant hub of learning and growth for the students of Tsing Yi Island.
