The Lobkowicz Palace was built in the second half of the 16th century by Jaroslav of Pernstein. A powerful Czech nobleman. His sister-in-law brought a statue from Spain. The Infant Jesus of Prague. It was said to have miraculous healing powers. The statue was later gifted to a church. It remains a popular attraction today.

The palace passed to the Lobkowicz family through marriage. Imagine the drama that unfolded within its walls. The Defenestration of Prague in 1618. Protestant rebels threw Catholic officials from the Royal Palace windows. The survivors sought refuge in the nearby Lobkowicz Palace. Polyxena a Lobkowicz princess protected them.

For three hundred years Lobkowicz Palace remained a key possession. It was the family’s formal residence in Prague. Essential for political and social events. The family were patrons of the arts.
