Perched atop a scenic overlook lies Lo Tei Tun. Did you know it offers some of the best views of Tai Long West Bay?

Lo Tei Tun. Its name might not ring a bell for every traveler. Yet, for those who seek panoramic vistas and a touch of tranquility, it is a must-see destination.

Historically, Lo Tei Tun wasn’t always a popular spot. It was relatively unknown. There wasn’t a major trail passing through Lo Tei Tun. This meant fewer people made the special trip to see its views. However, seven trails lead to and from Lo Tei Tun. One of these trails begins in the east. It offers incredible views. Hikers can enjoy sights of the village below.

In 2013, an incident occurred. Villagers in Tai Long West suddenly closed off the village. This forced hikers to change their routes. It also raised questions about public access. Were hikers allowed on trails crossing private land?

Then, in early 2015, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department stepped in. They opened a wide path on the northeast ridge of Lo Tei Tun. This rerouting avoided private land. Now, visitors can enjoy the scenery without trespassing.

This new path also offers views of the Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club. It serves as a reminder. Without proper oversight, natural landscapes could become private gardens. Protecting these areas requires vigilance from those who love the mountains and waters.

One trail north descends toward Four Sheep Pond. This trail is known to be steep and dense. Therefore, this trail is not suitable for casual hikers.

Lo Tei Tun offers a moderate hike. The path is roughly five kilometers long. It usually takes about two hours to complete. The ascent is around 400 meters. The descent is 401 meters. The highest point is 246 meters above sea level. The lowest is just one meter. Remember that elevation accuracy can vary by about 30 meters.

Today, Lo Tei Tun stands as a testament to accessible natural beauty. It reminds us of the importance of preserving our landscapes. Next time you are in Shenzhen, take the time to see Lo Tei Tun for yourself. You might be surprised by the beauty that awaits.
