LMAP Mt Riverview sits in the Blue Mountains. The town isn’t a tourist hotspot. But it has walks and recreational spots. From some streets, you can see Emu Plains and Penrith. The church adds to the town’s community feel.
Mount Riverview’s history is interesting. Plans for the area started in 1907. The land was split into six big lots. By 1914, land near Dixon Road was for returned soldiers. In 1920, Chas R Grandquist bought the first block. The streets Judith Ave and others were on this lot. The last lot was sold in 1923 to F.T. Buxell.
Back in 1931, Bernard Francis Cummings built a lookout. It was in a tree on his property. He called it Mt Riverview lookout. Tourists paid to climb up. They enjoyed views of the Nepean River. Cummings also had tea rooms and an art gallery. A bushfire destroyed it all in 1944.

The Department of Education bought land in 1962. This was for the new Blaxland school. It became Mt Riverview Public School.
The name Mt Riverview became official in 1964. Blue Mountains City Council gazetted it. The area had been known as Mt Riverview Village. But it was still part of Blaxland. Mt Riverview Public School opened in 1971. It was officially opened in 1974 by the Minister for Education.
Mount Riverview had 3,034 residents in 2016. It is next to Warrimoo and other suburbs. From Mount Riverview, you can see Centrepoint Tower. That’s 55 kilometers away. The town has a general store and a Chinese restaurant. You can also find parks and a fire brigade. The Mount Riverview Rural Fire Brigade started in 1968. It protects the town from bushfires.
The Black Christmas bushfires in 2001 were tough. Firefighters worked to save Mount Riverview. The brigade also helped with the 2003 Canberra bushfires. The Mount Riverview brigade is part of the FireWise program. They have fire trucks and a personnel carrier. Some members are part of the Remote Area Firefighting Team.
Mount Riverview is home to the Mt Riv Renegades basketball team. Patrick Cummins is a famous cricketer from here. Several local schools serve the area. Mount Riverview Primary is one of them.
Living in Mount Riverview has pros and cons. It’s known for peace and quiet. It is clean and green and feels safe. There’s not much traffic. The schools are good. But it can get hot in summer. Some say it’s a fire threat. Public transport to Sydney CBD takes two hours.
