Ever feel the rumble of a jet engine deep in your chest? That’s the feeling we’re chasing here at the LKPR spotting point. This isn’t just any viewpoint. It’s a pilgrimage for aviation enthusiasts.

The Prague Václav Havel Airport is the Czech Republic’s largest airport. It handled over 16 million passengers in 2018. It serves as a hub for Czech Airlines and Travel Service Smartwings. From this LKPR spotting point, you’re perfectly positioned to witness the comings and goings of a diverse array of aircraft.

Here at the LKPR spotting point, you will spot planes from European giants like Air France and Lufthansa to transatlantic carriers like American Airlines and Air Canada Rouge during the summer. Cargo planes from Turkish Cargo and China Airlines Cargo also frequent this airport. The variety is amazing.

Planespotting is generally tolerated here. Airport security understands our passion. However, be aware that during ELAL flights, you might be approached by their security personnel. Cooperate with them. Usually, there are no issues even when photographing their aircraft.

This LKPR spotting point offers a unique perspective. It is located between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 on the first floor. Remember that photos are taken through colored glass. Often this glass is dirty.

From here, you will see stands 14 to 21. You’ll also see the TWYs H and G. Movements on Runway 06/24 are visible too. However, they are quite far.

Timing is key at the LKPR spotting point. Aim for the morning. Till 2 p.m. in summer and till 4 p.m. in winter the light is best. Heat haze can be a problem for distant aircraft.

Don’t worry about refreshments. There’s a cafe beside the terrace. A Billa store is on the ground floor. Note that the terrace might close during ELAL flights. This LKPR spotting point is free of charge.

Focal length matters. An 18-300 mm lens is suitable. It depends on the distance and aircraft.

For those seeking other vantage points, Prague Airport offers several options. Viewing banks were opened in August 2012. They are located near Runway 06/24 and at the crossing of runways 12/30 and 06/24. Openings in the fencing are available too. Spotters helped design these.

Viewing terraces are available in Terminals 1 and 2. They provide close-up views of flights.

Many agree it’s worth visiting Prague Airport. Some spots are remote and require up to one hour of walking. Trust me it’s worth it.
