Living Word Bible Fellowship

Can a church truly change a neighborhood? At Living Word Bible Fellowship in Washington D.C., that question has been answered with a resounding “Yes.” In 1991, the area surrounding the church was grappling with poverty, homelessness, and unemployment. Reverend Eugene and Patrice Sheppard, having witnessed the struggles of families in homeless shelters, felt a calling. They embarked on a period of prayer and fasting, seeking guidance on how to bring hope to their community. They found their answer in the verses of John, where “the Word became flesh and dwelt among them.” Living Word Bible Fellowship was founded on the principle that while government programs address material needs, spiritual guidance and a connection to Jesus Christ could provide a foundation for eternal life. Reverend Sheppard, with over 30 years of ministry experience spanning from the United States to Haiti, India, South Africa, and England, brought his extensive knowledge of biblical studies to the church. His wife, Patrice, serves as Executive Pastor, bringing her own unique experiences from her work with the National Association of Minority Contractors and within the District of Columbia government. Their shared vision led to the establishment of Living Word Church, a place focused on strengthening families, growing children, and changing neighborhoods. Later, in 2015, Pastors Cliff and Sherry Beckford joined the church. Bringing their experience from Laurel Lakes Christian Center and their backgrounds in business and government, they reinforced the church’s commitment to the community. Living Word Bible Fellowship isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a testament to the power of faith to transform lives and uplift communities. It’s a place where the word truly became flesh, dwelling among the people of D.C. and offering a beacon of hope in challenging times.
