It offers its residents access to both the river and the tranquil Cove of Cork. Originally part of a 17th-century plantation known as Porter’s Hill, Lindamoor’s story begins long before its modern incarnation. This land witnessed the lives and legacies of prominent Annapolis families, from the Warners and Howards to the influential George Wells, president of Farmer’s Bank in the 19th century.
Lindamoor Community Beach, as we know it today, emerged from a transformation in 1947. The plantation was subdivided, giving rise to the charming neighborhood we see now. The first homes, built on Carriage Drive, marked the beginning of a new chapter. As more families settled in, the community grew, expanding along Lindamoor Lane, Sleepy Hollow Road, and Cove of Cork Lane. Two homes on Wilson Road also became part of this unique enclave. Lindamoor, a “water-privileged” community, cherishes its connection to the water. Residents enjoy access via several paths to the Cove of Cork and the Severn River. The main path leads to a larger community pier, a vital hub for the residents. A smaller pier, nestled in the middle of Cove of Cork, accommodates dinghies and small boats, overseen by the Lindamoor Improvement Association (LIA).
The entrance to the Cove of Cork demands periodic dredging. This has been a point of contention for many years. While the state owns the property across the entrance, it has declined to contribute to the dredging costs. Adding to the community’s burden, drainage from Route 50 was directed into the Cove by the Highway Administration. Since 1980, Lindamoor residents, later joined by those of Acorn Drive, have shouldered the financial responsibility. The Lindamoor Improvement Association (LIA) plays a vital role. It manages the community pier, a focal point of waterfront activities, and oversees a mooring field in the Cove. This organization ensures that Lindamoor residents can continue to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of their waterfront community.
