High above the Vltava River stands Libovné Liblice. A charming town with a rich history. Its name itself whispers tales of a pleasant past. Derived from the Old Czech word for “nice” or “pleasant” Liblice’s story begins long before its official mention in 993. That year a foundation deed for the Břevnov Monastery records Duke Boleslaus II’s generous donation of the village.

Libovné Liblice wasn’t always a town. It started as a small settlement. The area flourished gradually. The arrival of the railway in 1850 marked a turning point. This spurred industrialization changing the sleepy village forever. Nearby Prague’s influence grew as well.

In 1924 several neighboring communities joined. They merged to become Libovné Liblice nad Vltavou. This new municipality gained market town status. Eight years later in 1932 it became a town. Its growth continued steadily.

The heart of Libovné Liblice beats in its churches. The Church of Saint Bartholomew is a masterpiece. Originally Gothic it was later rebuilt in the Baroque style. Its elegant lines and ornate details speak volumes of its history. The Evangelical church nearby stands as a monument to another era. Its Neo-Romanesque style is distinct. Both reflect the town’s religious and architectural evolution.

Libovné Liblice also boasts impressive figures in its history. Artist animator and film director Miroslav Štípánek hailed from here. His artistic legacy resonates far beyond the town’s borders. Painter and illustrator Karel Franta also called Libovné Liblice home. Their creativity continues to inspire.

Today Libovné Liblice is a thriving town. It is a blend of its historical roots and modern life. It is conveniently located near Prague. It benefits from the city’s dynamism yet retains its unique charm. Libovné Liblice. A town where history and modernity intertwine. A town to explore. A town to remember.
