From these very grounds arose a beacon of learning. This is the LI Liceum Ogólnokształcące. More than just a school it’s a living testament to resilience. It stands as a symbol of hope in the shadow of war.

Established in 1944 during a time of immense turmoil the LI Liceum Ogólnokształcące opened its doors. It was born from the ashes of the pre-war Gimnazjum im Izabeli Adamskiej. This private school later became state-run in 1937. It began its journey not here but at ul Dwóch Mieczy 5. It shared its building with a primary school. A testament to the times. A time when resources were scarce yet the desire for education burned bright.

Imagine the students huddled together. They were learning in secret during the German occupation. Teachers risked everything to keep the flame of knowledge alive. Their secret classes were a lifeline. A symbol of defiance against the oppressive regime. The school’s official reopening was on October 19 1944. It was given the number 51 and named after Tadeusz Kościuszko. A fitting tribute to a national hero.

The year 1967 marked a significant milestone. The school moved to its current location at ul Kadrowa 9. It was part of a massive undertaking called “Thousand Schools for the Millennium”. This involved the construction of numerous new school buildings across the country.

For a period the LI Liceum Ogólnokształcące was part of a larger complex. This included a teacher training college. For a while the college almost overshadowed the high school. In the 1980s only a few classes remained. The teacher training college was later dissolved in the 1990s. The school then underwent a restructuring. Since then it has welcomed around 600 students annually.

Today this remarkable institution boasts the patronage of three esteemed universities. These include the Academy of Military Arts the Academy of Special Education and the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the University of Warsaw. It celebrated its 75th anniversary in March 2019. In June of that year the first alumni reunion took place. Many more years of learning and growth await within these walls. The LI Liceum Ogólnokształcące continues to shape young minds. It serves as an enduring symbol of education’s transformative power.
