Let’s delve into the past. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1320. Přibík of Chrustenice founded Březová Lhota then. It was northeast of today’s Lhotka u Berouna. The place is still called Na Březové today.
The village was under the spiritual administration of the parish in Loděnice. The council court in Beroun decided on civil disputes. Štěpán of Tetín is known from its holders. He was a relative of Václav II. He donated the village to the Augustinian monastery at St. Thomas in Malá Strana in 1338. Later, it probably belonged to the royal town of Beroun. Ferdinand I confiscated it because the people of Beroun were on the side of the estates against him. Then he returned it to the town at the request of the consuls.
Jan Střelec came from Březová Lhota. He was elevated to the noble status in 1552. Jan Střelec ze Lhoty and his son Jiřík were mayors of Beroun for many years. They owned an extensive farmyard in Lhotka u Berouna.
During the Thirty Years’ War, a troop of looting Swedes invaded the village in 1634. After a savage massacre, only one person survived. The soldiers set Březová Lhota on fire. New farmers settled a little further away after a few years. They founded a smaller settlement and called it Lhotka.
Now look around. There used to be a mighty lime tree in the village. It was called Robotnická lípa. Its age was estimated at 200 years. The internally damaged tree fell victim to a strong wind on September 22 2018. The wood from the memorial tree was used to make a nativity scene. The carver Jan Viktora created it. He is also the author of the Beroun nativity scene.
You can see a lookout tower on the wooded hill above the village. It is part of the T-Mobile telecommunications transmitter. It opened on May 5 2007. Lhotka u Berouna offers a blend of historical intrigue and natural beauty.
