Jan Nowak-Jeziora\u0144ski’s real name was Zdzis\u0142aw Antoni Jeziora\u0144ski. He was born in Berlin. Many mistakenly believe he was born in Warsaw. He altered his documents during the Nazi occupation. This was to avoid Nazi attention.

He studied at Stefan Batory Gymnasium. Later he transferred to Adam Mickiewicz Gymnasium. He developed a deep interest in history. He joined the Harcerstwo Movement. He graduated from Pozna\u0144 University in 1936.

In 1939, Germans captured Jeziora\u0144ski. He escaped with J\u00f3zef Cyrankiewicz. In 1940, he joined the underground. He participated in Akcja N. He became the Courier to the Home Army Commander. He earned the nickname “The Warsaw Courier”. He made five journeys to London. He delivered top-secret documents. In 1944, he fought in the Warsaw Uprising.

After the war, he lived in London then Munich and Washington. From 1948 to 1951, he worked at BBC Radio. From 1951 to 1976, he supervised Radio Free Europe. He informed Poles about life behind the Iron Curtain.

In 2002, he settled in Warsaw. He died in 2005. He was buried at Pow\u0105zki Cemetery. He was a journalist writer and politician. He was a Polish patriot. He was a key figure in Polish history.
