Lau Shui Heung Campsite is at the southern end of Lau Shui Heung Reservoir. Shek Au Shan’s western slope cradles it. Imagine a thick carpet of grass. Stately trees and willows provide ample shade. They grow along the reservoir’s edge.
Lau Shui Heung Reservoir is special. Locals call it “the sky mirror in Hong Kong”. The flat water reflects the sky and green hills. White melaleuca and bald cypress trees surround the water. In autumn and winter, some turn yellow and orange. This creates fetching shades. The fresh greenery has a calming effect. The pond teems with fish and insects.
To reach Lau Shui Heung Campsite, take minibus 52B from Fanling MTR Station Exit A. A green taxi is another option. It costs about $50. Get off at the roundabout for Pak Sin Leng Country Park. It’s at the junction of Hok Tau Road and Lau Shui Heung Road. Walk along Lau Shui Heung Road for about 15 minutes. This leads to the park entrance.
The route to Lau Shui Heung Campsite is mostly shaded. However, there are stairs at the beginning. The downhill route has a small incline.
Lau Shui Heung Campsite provides basic facilities. You’ll find barbeque pits. Benches and tables are available. Drains and clotheslines are provided. There are dry toilet pits. Stream water is available seasonally.
Leaving Lau Shui Heung Campsite is easy. Follow the same route back to the junction. Wait for minibus 52B. You can also hike the Lau Shui Heung Nature Trail. It leads to Hok Tau Reservoir. This walk is about 4km and takes 1.5 hours. You will pass Wilson Trail Section 9. You’ll also glimpse Shenzhen’s high-rises.
Weekends at Lau Shui Heung Reservoir can be busy. Minibuses and taxis may take longer. There is no kiosk near Lau Shui Heung Campsite. Get supplies in Fanling if needed. Remember to take all belongings with you. Do not leave any rubbish in the country park.
The Lau Shui Heung Campsite itself is small. It has fewer than 20 tent spaces. It’s on the northeast part of Lung Shan. It’s close to Lau Shui Heung Village. The reservoir was originally used to irrigate nearby fields.
