Tucked away on Sydney’s Lower North Shore, Lane Cove North whispers tales of transformation. Lane Cove North officially became a suburb in 2006. But its story begins much earlier, intertwined with the history of Lane Cove itself. Originally part of Lane Cove, this area housed returning soldiers after World War II, granted land as part of a veterans’ home grant scheme. Lane Cove North evolved from bushland, a source of timber and resources for early settlers, to a residential haven. Imagine the scene in 2005, when Lane Cove North briefly stepped onto the world stage. Part of an apartment block, now classified within North Lane Cove, collapsed during the Lane Cove Tunnel excavation. A dramatic rescue ensued, a pet bird plucked from the evacuated building by a robot. This event marked a turning point, ushering in an era of redevelopment that continues to shape Lane Cove North’s character. Today, Lane Cove North boasts a blend of suburban tranquility and urban convenience. Its boundaries, etched by the Pacific Highway, Epping Road, Lane Cove River, and Chatswood Golf Course, enclose a vibrant community. Families send their children to Mowbray Public School. Residents gather for worship at the Chatswood South Uniting Church. Sports enthusiasts find their place at Tantallon Oval, home to the Lane Cove Rugby Club and the Lane Cove Tigers Junior Rugby League Club, or at the Chatswood War Memorial Athletic Field for athletics and Little Athletics. A network of parks, including Tantallon Oval, Batten Creek Reserve, and Stringybark Reserve, offer green escapes. From its quiet streets to its bustling community hubs, Lane Cove North retains a unique charm, a blend of history and modernity that continues to unfold.
