In the heart of Ping Shan, Yuen Long District, lies the intriguing Lam Hau Tsuen. A walled village with a rich history, Lam Hau Tsuen whispers stories of a time long past. Lam Hau Tsuen is a recognized village under the New Territories Small House Policy. This policy allows indigenous villagers to build small houses on their land. It’s one of the 37 villages represented within the Ping Shan Rural Committee. This shows its importance within the local community. Back in 1911, Lam Hau Tsuen was a bustling community of 237 people. 107 were men and the rest women and children. Imagine the daily life within those walls, the sounds, the smells, and the sense of community. The entrance gate, the village shrine, and Yan Shau Tong, house number 150, all hold pieces of the past, waiting to be discovered. Lam Hau Tsuen stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of tradition and community in Hong Kong. A visit here offers a glimpse into a bygone era, a chance to connect with the roots of the New Territories.
