The Kwun Tong Swimming Pool is the largest in the Kwun Tong district. This complex provides comprehensive swimming facilities. These are available in all weather conditions. The Kwun Tong Swimming Pool serves the community.
The original Kwun Tong Swimming Pool opened in 1971. Princess Anne formally opened it. The Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club contributed significantly to its construction. This original pool was north of where we stand now.
In 2000, the Urban Council was disbanded. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department took over management. The government proposed a town hall and a new pool in 2002. However, those plans were shelved for a while.
Finally, in 2009, funding was approved. A new Kwun Tong Swimming Pool would be built. It was constructed on the former Kwun Tong Recreation Ground Football Field. The new pool opened on April 1, 2013. Florence Hui officially opened it later that year.
This new Kwun Tong Swimming Pool boasts many facilities. There is an indoor heated main pool. It measures 50 meters by 25 meters. There is also an indoor heated training pool. This one measures 25 meters by 30 meters. Outside, you’ll find a secondary pool. It measures 50 meters by 21 meters. Two outdoor teaching pools are also available. These measure 25 meters by 12.5 meters. And don’t forget the sunbathing area.
The main indoor pool features a spectator stand. It has around 1,492 seats. This makes it suitable for hosting swimming competitions. The Kwun Tong Swimming Pool complex has a splendid design. It incorporates many green elements.
The building uses energy-efficient features. These include a solar hot water system. A photovoltaic system provides solar park lighting. A rainwater recycling system assists with water conservation. It also irrigates the landscape.
Getting here is easy. You can take the MTR to Kwun Tong station. From Exit D1, walk along Tsui Ping Road. Or, you can take various bus routes. The Kwun Tong Swimming Pool is easily accessible.
