A large round window gave it its name Cyklopen meaning Cyclops in Greek mythology. Sadly this first Cyklopen was destroyed by arson in 2008. The act was linked to neo-Nazis.

Undeterred by this setback the community rallied together. They began another self-building project. They secured a new site and with renewed determination and countless volunteer hours they constructed the present-day Kulturhuset Cyklopen. It opened its doors in 2013. This new Cyklopen boasts a larger space and a different design. It’s still a unique space in Högdalen. It continues to serve as a vibrant community center.

The building itself is a marvel. It’s built primarily of timber. This contrasts with its original container-based predecessor. The exterior features semi-transparent polycarbonate panels. The colors are a striking combination of purple copper black and green. The building is a striking example of community-driven architecture.
