Protected since 1972 Kuliva hora stands before you. This nature reserve a haven of biodiversity is tucked away in the Trebotov district of Prague West. Its significance lies not in towering spires or ancient stones but in the delicate balance of its flora and fauna.

Kuliva hora’s charm is subtle. It’s not a place of grand monuments. Instead it’s a sanctuary for rare plants and animals. Imagine the vibrant hues of the common knapweed and the delicate petals of the hairy vetch. These are just two of the many treasures found here.

The reserve’s forests and meadows teem with life. Unusual mushrooms like the Caesar’s mushroom and the dark-footed truffle thrive under the canopy. Among the insects are the rare fruit tree butterfly and the fennel butterfly. The reserve is also home to the less glamorous yet equally important Aegopinella nitens snail and the Bulgarica nitidosa slug.

Birds find refuge among the trees. Listen closely you might hear the call of the great spotted woodpecker or the song of the white wagtail. The area boasts a minimum of 77 nesting bird species a testament to its rich ecosystem. Among the amphibians the agile frog and the spotted salamander call Kuliva hora home.

Despite its ecological value Kuliva hora remains unassuming. No well-marked trails traverse its protected heart. The blue trail from Trebotov to Vonoklas only touches a small section. The nearest train station is in Cernošice some three kilometers away. Yet this remote setting is precisely what allows Kuliva hora’s unique beauty to thrive undisturbed.

Its quietude its hidden treasures invite exploration. Take a moment to appreciate this unsung jewel of Prague. Kuliva hora a reminder that nature’s wonders can be found in the most unexpected places. Its protection ensures its fragile ecosystem will continue to flourish for generations to come. It serves as a sanctuary not only for wildlife but for those seeking peace and quiet in the bustling city of Prague.
