A haven for athletes and the city’s elite, KTHC Rot-Weiss, the Cologne Tennis and Hockey Club, has been standing proudly in the heart of Cologne since 1906. This club is a testament to the rich history of sport in the city, a place where generations of athletes have polished their skills and honed their competitive spirit. Founded by two separate hockey clubs, the Cölner Hockey Club 1906 and the Rheinische Hockey Club, they eventually merged in 1913 to create the Cölner Rheinische Hockey Club. But in 1920, differences in opinion led to a split, resulting in the formation of two distinct clubs.
One group founded KKHT Schwarz-Weiß, while the other, who chose to embrace the city’s colors, established the Kölner Hockey- und Tennis- Club on the Rhine terraces in Rodenkirchen. In 1921, they officially adopted the name “Rot-Weiss”. It wasn’t until 1925 that the club truly found its home when it merged with the Stadion Club Grün-Weiß, becoming the KTHC Stadion Rot-Weiss. This merger brought about a new era of sporting excellence and established the club’s legacy within the city. The club, which has hosted numerous sporting events, even became the site of the first tennis hall in Germany and the first hockey hall in 1955. Since then, the club has fostered countless generations of athletes, including national and Olympic champions. In 2012, Dr. Stefan Seitz took the helm as the club’s president, leading it into a bright future. So, as you stand in front of this historic clubhouse, remember, it’s more than just a sports facility, it’s a vital part of Cologne’s sporting and cultural identity.
