Curious about surviving a nuclear attack? Kryt Folimanka offers a glimpse into Prague’s Cold War past. This former civilian air-raid shelter is hidden beneath Folimanka Park. Kryt Folimanka aimed to protect 1300 people. It provided supplies for 72 hours.

This tunnel complex has dormitories and showers. It also includes medical facilities and morgues. Technical equipment purified air and water. Kryt Folimanka was built in the 1950s. It is nestled in a rocky cliff. Today, the bunker is in excellent condition. It could be used immediately in an emergency.

Inside, find a large map of Prague 2. It shows all air-raid shelters in this area. Ventilation domes dot the park. They were designed to filter radioactive dust. In 2017, graffiti artists transformed one vent. It became the Star Wars robot R2D2. Concrete pieces were added as legs. In 2022, two more vents were painted. They became Minions.

Kryt Folimanka is the largest underground construction in Prague 2. It spans 1332 square meters. The shelter maintains lighting and heating.

You can visit Kryt Folimanka for free. It is open one Saturday a month. Visiting hours are from 9 am to 3 pm. Expect a constant temperature of 18 degrees Celsius. The entrance is on Pod Karlovem Street. It is opposite number 2.

Above you towers the Nusle Bridge. It opened in 1973. Below it, Jamrtál outdoor sports park offers fun activities. These include roller sports and ice skating.
