Established in 1993 the Křesťanské gymnázium stands as a testament to faith and education. Its founding was a bold step by Kamila Müllerová. She envisioned a place where young minds could learn freely. This was especially important after the communist era. The school’s location in Stará Hostivař is peaceful. It’s near the Botič stream a protected natural area.
The Křesťanské gymnázium isn’t just a school. It’s a community. Students benefit from a school library a sports field and a school club. Extracurricular activities are plentiful. The school even has its own oratory. A priest leads mass there every Friday.
Initially the school offered both four-year and eight-year programs. The four-year program ended in 2019. Now the Křesťanské gymnázium focuses on its successful eight-year program. Two classes of students begin each year. The school’s commitment to Christian values is clear. However acceptance is open to all students. Religious education is integrated into the curriculum. But participation is voluntary. The school also encourages tolerance and cooperation among its students.
Božena Böhmová the current principal has continued the school’s legacy. She’s received the Saint Ludmila Medal for her service. The school’s history is rich. Many notable figures have taught or studied there. These include Petr Špaček a renowned cellist. Zbyněk M Duda a prominent historian also taught here. Even Olympic judoka Jaromír Musil teaches physical education. Notable alumna Kateřina Moravcová is a well-known actress and writer.
The building itself has a story. It stands on the site of a former school. That school was built because of the nearby Kbely Airport. The Křesťanské gymnázium now occupies two pavilions. These were once part of the old ZŠ Kozinova school. Today the Křesťanské gymnázium is thriving. It continues to provide a unique educational experience. A balance of faith academics and community is central to its mission. Its history echoes in its walls. Its future is bright promising generations of well-rounded students.
