Established in 1904 the Kowloon Cricket Club stands proudly. It’s a testament to Hong Kong’s rich sporting heritage. This members-only club and social hub is more than just a cricket pitch. It’s a vibrant piece of history.

The KCC as it is affectionately known began its journey on October 4th 1904. A group of Kowloon residents shared a passion. They wanted a cricket club. Land was generously provided by the government in King’s Park. The club quickly took root. It competed against other local teams. Names like the Hong Kong Cricket Club and the Craigengower Cricket Club became familiar rivals.

Imagine the thrill of those early matches. The crack of the bat the cheers of the crowd. The KCC wasn’t just about cricket though. It housed the Amateur Athletics Association for a time. A cinder track was even part of the grounds. But cricket’s popularity overshadowed athletics eventually. The association dissolved in 1950.

A significant milestone arrived on January 18th 1908. Sir Hormusjee N Mody laid the foundation stone for the first clubhouse. He was a generous benefactor. He received a beautifully engraved silver trowel as a memento. The Governor Sir Frederick Lugard officially opened the Kowloon Cricket Club Pavilion on July 11 1908.

World War II cast a long shadow. The club ceased operations from 1941 to 1946. Post-war the club competed for the Hancock Memorial Shield. The club rose again.

Since 1992 the KCC has hosted the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes. This tournament showcases the excitement of short-format cricket. The club also boasts a full-size bowling green. It’s a testament to the club’s commitment to offering a range of sporting activities.

Ryan Campbell became the head coach in January 2016. He also coached the Hong Kong national cricket team. The Kowloon Cricket Club is more than just a club. It’s a vital part of Hong Kong’s identity and a place where sporting legends were made.
