Kościół pw. Świętego Marka Ewangelisty

Gazing upon Kościeł pw. Świętego Marka Ewangelisty, one might initially see only a modern structure. But its story, etched in every brick and stained-glass window, whispers of dedication and community. This church, formally established in 1990 by Cardinal Józef Glemp, draws its roots from the parishes of Świętej Rodziny and Chrystusa Króla. Its creation involved carving a new spiritual home from parts of these existing parishes in Warsaw-Zacisze and Warsaw-Targówek. The journey began even earlier, in 1987. Father Szczepan Stalpiński, tasked with forming the new parish, relocated from Halinów to Zacisze in 1988. Imagine Father Stalpiński, overseeing the blessing of the land for the church and rectory by Bishop Marian Duś in October 1987. His dedication is evident in the years that followed, from 1988 to 1995. He tirelessly, often single-handedly, built the parish house and church. The design, conceived by Professor Andrzej Buchner, was brought to life by the structural engineer Dr. Andrzej Żurawski. Engineer Kazimierz Górski diligently supervised the construction. The first masses, held in a temporary shed, speak to the resourcefulness of the early community. In 1989, a chapel on the ground floor of the catechism house became their sanctuary. Christmas Eve 1995 marked a pivotal moment. The first mass in the newly built Kościeł pw. Świętego Marka Ewangelisty was celebrated by Bishop Stanisław Kędziora. Shortly after, in January 1996, Bishop Kazimierz Romaniuk blessed and laid the cornerstone, solidifying the church’s presence in the community. The church continued to evolve, reflecting the devotion of its parishioners. Bishop Romaniuk consecrated a replica of the image of Our Lady of Consolation in 1999. In 2000, he consecrated the church and altar. Further enhancements include the blessing of the new altarpiece apse in 2004. The addition of a replica of the image “Jesus, I Trust in You” in the renovated Divine Mercy chapel in 2004, and the placement of relics of St. Faustyna Kowalska in 2009. Relics of Blessed Jerzy Popiełuszko were placed in Our Lady of Consolation chapel in 2010, followed by relics of St. Maximilian Kolbe. Archbishop Henryk Hoser further enriched the parish in 2011, blessing new rooms in the parish house, including St. Mark the Evangelist chapel. Kościeł pw. Świętego Marka Ewangelisty stands not merely as a building but as a testament to the unwavering faith and perseverance of a community.
