The first church dedicated to Our Lady of Pompeii in Warsaw stands majestically, a beacon of faith rising in the neighborhood of Tarchomin. This very modern church with its unique architectural design is a testament to the devotion and resilience of the local community. The story of Kościoł pw. Matki Bożej Pompejańskiej in Warsaw, though young, is filled with interesting twists and turns. This church, opened in 2016, is a testament to the devotion of the local community to the patron saint of the parish, Our Lady of Pompeii. The story begins with the purchase of the land for the church back in April 2016. The local priest, Roman Kot, was entrusted with the mission of establishing a parish here. As the diocesan chaplain for rosary groups, Father Kot chose Our Lady of Pompeii as the patron of the future parish. In July of that year, the first image of Our Lady of Pompeii arrived, a gift from a pilgrimage to the original sanctuary in Pompeii. The first Mass was celebrated under open skies on the land where the church now stands in September 2016. The parish then built a temporary chapel, which was consecrated on October 22, 2016. On November 27, 2016, Archbishop Henryk Hoser established the church as a Pastoral Center. The construction of the church itself began in September 2019. The parish was officially elevated to the status of a parish on October 7, 2019, during the liturgical celebration of the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. The church is a reminder that even in a modern city like Warsaw, faith and tradition remain pillars of the community. Today, Kościoł pw. Matki Bożej Pompejańskiej continues to be an active part of the community, offering a place for prayer, reflection, and a sense of belonging. It is a place where the faithful can find solace and strength in the face of life’s challenges. It is a place where the love of Our Lady of Pompeii is felt and celebrated.
