The history of the Kościół pw. Błogosławionej Marceliny Darowskiej begins around 1940. Józef Przyłuski was a wealthy industrialist. He brought the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception to Buraków. He gave them land and a villa called Jutrzenka.
The sisters ran sewing courses here. They also founded a kindergarten and a chapel. The chapel was consecrated in 1941. It served the sisters and local residents. People sought solace here during the war. After the war, the chapel became too small. It was demolished. A large monastery building was erected in its place. It included a kindergarten and a new chapel.
The pastoral center at the chapel grew. More and more faithful came. In May 1994, Cardinal Józef Glemp established a parish in Buraków. It was a significant moment for the community. The parish received permission to expand and adapt the chapel into a parish church.
In 1999, Cardinal Józef Glemp participated in the dedication ceremony. He laid the cornerstone. Five years later, he consecrated the Kościół pw. Błogosławionej Marceliny Darowskiej. The expansion of the church was initiated by Fr. Zbigniew Sajnóg.
Inside the Kościół pw. Błogosławionej Marceliny Darowskiej, you’ll find treasures. The main altar has a marble sculpture of Our Lady of Jazłowiec. It is one of five figures sculpted by Oskar Sosnowski. A wooden figure of St. John of Nepomuk is a valuable monument. It was found on the bank of the Vistula River. Stained glass adorns the windows of the Kościół pw. Błogosławionej Marceliny Darowskiej. The cornerstone is in the left wall near the stained glass.
The Parafia pw. Błogosławionej Marceliny Darowskiej is the only parish in Poland with this name. It is a testament to the legacy of Marcelina Darowska. Marcelina Darowska came from a wealthy family. She married Karol Weryha Darowski. After the death of her husband and son, she dedicated her life to religious service.
Marcelina Darowska co-founded the Congregation of the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception. She established schools and promoted innovative education methods. Her system emphasized God, truth, trust, and selflessness. Marcelina Darowska died in 1911. Pope John Paul II beatified her in 1996.
