The soaring spire of the Church of Our Lady Queen of Mexico pierces the sky. Its silhouette a striking contrast against the Warsaw horizon.

This isn’t just any church. This is a testament to friendship between Poland and Mexico. A bond forged in the aftermath of World War II. Polish exiles in Mexico initiated a remarkable exchange. They championed Our Lady of Guadalupe as patron saint of Poland. In return Poland built this sanctuary. It’s dedicated to the Queen of Mexico.

In 1981 the foundation stone was laid. The church’s design is unique. Its shape resembles a fish a symbol of early Christians. This subtle nod reflects the struggles of Poles under communist rule. The church’s high steeple evokes the Guadalupe Basilica. A large stained-glass window depicts Our Lady of Guadalupe herself. It dominates the church’s facade.

Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński played a key role. He oversaw this initiative. Laski a town near Warsaw was chosen for its location. This was a favourite place of the primate of Poland. His dream was to build a new parish church. It was finally realized after his death. The church was built thanks to the efforts of Engineer Jerzy Skoryna. A soldier of the Home Army and the II Corps. He lived in Mexico from 1946 onward.

The Church of Our Lady Queen of Mexico isn’t just a building. It is a living symbol. It represents enduring friendship between two nations. A place of peace and prayer. It’s a reminder of the power of faith and the enduring strength of human connection across continents and cultures. It is a place where history and devotion intertwine.
