The Kolegium MISH was founded in 1992. Professor Jerzy Axer presented the project. He presented it to the then Rector of the University of Warsaw Professor Andrzej Kajetan Wróblewski. It is an institution with a fascinating history.

Since its creation, the Polish higher education system changed. The need for this study model became clear. Other leading Polish universities adopted the UW’s MISH model. These include the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń established in 1997. The University of Silesia in Katowice was established in 1997. Jagiellonian University was established in 2000. The Catholic University of Lublin was established in 2000. Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań was established in 2002. University of Wrocław was established in 2004. Maria Curie-Skłodowska University was established in 2007. The University of Łódź was established in 2008. The University of Opole was established in 2011.
These initiatives led to the creation of the Academy “Artes Liberales” in 1999. It was an inter-university structure. It brought MISH’s experience to intercollegiate studies.
The Kolegium MISH offers various study options. Students can pursue full-time Master’s programs. They can choose first and second-cycle studies. It depends on the chosen field. Studies at Kolegium MISH are full-time only.
The curriculum is interdisciplinary. It covers at least two fields of study. It leads to a diploma in at least one field. Each student’s individual program spans three years. It includes courses in at least three academic disciplines. These courses have credits and exams.
The approach is highly individual. The Kolegium MISH uses a tutorial system. Each student selects an academic tutor. The student and tutor create an annual study plan. It meets diploma requirements. It reflects individual interests and scientific passions.
The Kolegium MISH offers humanities. Courses include philosophy and sociology. Other options are history and art history. Students can study ethnology and philology. Polish philology is available. Psychology and pedagogy are also options. Journalism and cultural studies are offered too. The Kolegium MISH allows diplomas in economics. Applied social sciences are an option. Students can study social prevention. Political science and law are also possible.
Graduates earn Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees. It can be in one or more fields. These fields are offered by units federated in the Kolegium MISH.
