Kat O, once a thriving fishing village of 6,000 during World War II, now shelters only a handful of families. As you climb to Ko Tei Teng, imagine the island teeming with life, a vital hub for fishermen and traders. Today, a mix of modern and dilapidated buildings line the main street, a poignant reminder of the island’s evolving story. The climb to Ko Tei Teng is part of the Kat O Nature Trail. This short, 1 km trail starts at the Kat O Ferry Pier and leads you to the peak. From this vantage point, you can not only see the Shenzhen container port, but also other areas to the north. Look for the Kat O Geoheritage Centre on Main Street. It was established by villagers, volunteers, and the government to promote geo-conservation within the Hong Kong Geopark.
