Look up, and you’ll see the Kista Science Tower dominating the skyline. It’s a beacon of innovation and progress, standing tall in the heart of Kista. This impressive 32-story skyscraper was completed in 2003 and was, once upon a time, the tallest in all of Sweden, reaching a lofty 124 meters. Today, it’s still the tallest office building in Scandinavia. It was originally meant to have a few extra floors, but the financial crisis of the early 2000s put an abrupt end to that plan. Even though those floors never materialized, the elevator shaft was left in place, resulting in the striking concrete block that towers over the roof. This black cube, contrary to some rumors, isn’t meant to be the start of more floors. It’s the space for the antenna’s electronics and is home to some of the fastest elevators in the country, reaching speeds of 5 to 6 meters per second. That’s more than 16 feet a second! Just picture that: You’re stepping into an elevator, and before you know it, you’re whisked up 32 floors to the top in just 24 seconds. Can you imagine the view from up there, overlooking the city of Stockholm and the surrounding areas? This architectural marvel houses various technology and IT companies, making it a hub for innovation in the heart of Sweden’s tech scene. You can find it right next to Kista Galleria, a large shopping complex and the Kista metro station, making it a central point for both business and leisure activities in the area.
