A lone sycamore tree stands tall. It overlooks the Tel HaShomer base. This tree is Kiryat Ono’s symbol. Its presence is a story in itself.

Kiryat Ono a city in the Tel Aviv District. It’s located just 11 kilometers east of Tel Aviv. It wasn’t always a city though. Its roots go back further. Much further.

The area was once home to the biblical Ono. That ancient city is now near Or Yehuda. Kiryat Ono also takes its name from Kafr ‘Ana. That Palestinian village was named after Ono. The history of the land is layered and rich.

Kfar Ono a settlement. It was established in 1939. Later in the 1950s a ma’abara appeared nearby. This was a transit camp for new immigrants to Israel. In 1954 Kfar Ono and other nearby communities merged. They formed Kiryat Ono. It achieved city status in 1992. Its growth has been remarkable.

The city boasts eleven schools. These cater to a diverse student body. The students study at the schools in the city. Ono Academic College also calls this city home. This college serves thousands of students each year. Education plays a significant role in Kiryat Ono’s identity.

Beyond the classrooms Kiryat Ono thrives. It has a vibrant culture. Its people have forged a unique identity. The city is known for its international ties. It’s twinned with several cities around the globe. These connections span continents. They bridge cultures and foster understanding.
