The Kirchenruine hl. Martin was a Wehrkirche, designed for both worship and defense. Its commanding position provided a strategic advantage, a fact not lost on Erzherzog Karl during the Battle of Wagram in 1809. He used the ruins as his command post. Even in its ruin, the church found new purpose, transformed into a windmill in 1817. However, tragedy struck in 1862 when a fire consumed the structure, leaving behind the skeletal frame we see today. Though scarred by time and conflict, the Kirchenruine hl. Martin remains a poignant reminder of the area’s rich history.
