Nestled amidst the bustling cityscape, Kingsview Free Methodist Church stands as a testament to faith, community, and transformation. In the early 1960s, a group of families, weary of long journeys to worship, envisioned a Free Methodist presence in Etobicoke. Their vision took root in 1962. By January 1963, a society was formed, led by Rev. Robert Dargan. It comprised ten founding families and eighteen members. Kingsview Free Methodist Church found its home on Kingsview Boulevard, thanks to Frank Barkey and Mrs. Evelyn Byworth. The land, purchased for $25,000, was spacious enough for a church, a parsonage, and ample parking. Construction began in June 1963. The official dedication, led by Bishop E. C. John, took place on December 8, 1963. The church and parsonage cost a total of $128,000. While the church was being built, services were held at Kingsview Village Public School and in homes. Kingsview Free Methodist Church has always been deeply connected to its surrounding community. Kingsview Village evolved from farmland into a vibrant multicultural hub, attracting many immigrant families. Kingsview Free Methodist Church became a welcoming space for newcomers, reflecting the diversity of the neighborhood. Today, members hail from over 30 different countries. This multiculturalism enriches Kingsview Free Methodist Church. It demonstrates the church’s commitment to inclusivity. Over the years, Kingsview Free Methodist Church has continued to expand and adapt. The Broadview Education Wing was added in 1969, providing space for youth programs, a library, and a lounge. In 1982, the church acquired the neighboring property at 17 Kingsview for future growth. From its early days, Kingsview Free Methodist Church has embraced social justice. It follows Jesus’ example of serving others. The church’s initiatives have focused on children, youth, and families. Programs range from Sunday school and tutoring to sports leagues and arts programs. Kingsview Free Methodist Church also extends its outreach globally. It has supported projects like building a hospital in Haiti, an operating room in Somalia, and a community center in the Dominican Republic. Their long-standing child sponsorship program in the Dominican Republic is soon to become an independent registered charity. Kingsview Free Methodist Church stands as a beacon of hope. It remains committed to serving its local and global neighbors.
