Can you imagine a place where the world’s most exclusive fashion brands jostle for attention? Step right into Kikar Hamedina, Tel Aviv’s grandest plaza. Here, luxury reigns supreme. Kikar Hamedina, also known as the “Square of the State,” is a vibrant hub of culture and commerce. In the 1970s, the barren square was transformed into a haven of high-end design by architects Oscar Niemeyer and Israeli counterparts. Surrounded by a circular street, He Be’Iyar Street, the plaza became an epicenter of high-end fashion and luxury shopping in Tel Aviv. Today, it’s a kaleidoscope of dazzling shopfronts and international designer boutiques. Gucci, Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana, and more, all have a presence here. And, if you look closely, you can see the ghosts of circuses past, their laughter and wonder echoing gently from the sandy square, their presence a faint but enduring memory. But Kikar Hamedina’s past is not just about fashion and fanfare. In 2011, it became a focal point for the “March of the Million” – a historic demonstration for social justice that drew hundreds of thousands of Israelis to the square. In 2015, a plan to revitalize the square was approved, with three 40-floor apartment buildings and a 10-acre public park planned. So, Kikar Hamedina is not just about glamorous facades, it’s a place where history and dreams intertwine, where Tel Aviv’s past meets its future.
