The Kielmeyerhaus was once the hospice winepress. It was constructed in 1582. The building also served as a warehouse for the Katharinenhospital. This hospital was originally situated on what is now the market square.
Notice the half-timbering painted in Franconian red. This Renaissance building is distinctive. It’s remarkable that the Kielmeyerhaus survived the demolition of the rest of the hospital.
For centuries the Kielmeyerhaus has been owned by the Kielmeyer family. That is since the 18th century. Before that, its walls held the Katharinenspital’s magnificent winepress. It was rebuilt in 1582.
Today, the Kielmeyerhaus continues its tradition. It houses Kielmeyers 1582. This is a restaurant with fine cuisine. It is set in a historic ambience. The restaurateurs Lutz and Hannes Kielmeyer chose the name based on this long tradition.
Kielmeyers 1582 merged with Kielmeyers Besen. This happened on August 22, 2023. Now they share a common kitchen. They offer daily menus and weekly specials. The a la carte areas are combined. This creates a new exciting cuisine.
